Activity with TimeToast

 Hi everyone!

Now, I'll show you the activity done by my students of 6th Primary Education. We have designed in small groups some timelines about the WWI and scientific discovering.

Learning objectives

The primary objectives of this activity were to:

Help students understand historical and scientific events in a chronological format.

Develop students’ research skills by summarizing key events concisely.

Improve digital literacy by using an online tool for visual representation.

Encourage collaboration and critical thinking in organizing information logically.

Advantages of using TimeToast

TimeToast provided several benefits for this activity, including:

Visual Learning: The interactive timeline made it easier for students to grasp the sequence of events.

User-Friendly Interface: Its simple design allowed students to create and edit timelines easily.

Collaboration: Students could work in groups, discuss event significance, and organize them effectively.

Engagement: The interactive nature of TimeToast kept students motivated compared to traditional paper timelines.

Steps followed to set up the activity

1. Introduction: Explained the purpose of the timeline and how it helps visualize historical/scientific events.

2. Demonstration: Provided a brief tutorial on using TimeToast, including adding events, descriptions, and images.

3. Research & Planning: Students researched their assigned topic (WWI or scientific discoveries) and selected key events.

4. Timeline Creation: Each group created a timeline on TimeToast, adding dates, descriptions, and relevant images.

5. Presentation & Discussion: Students shared their timelines with the class, discussing key takeaways and any challenges.

Overall, students found TimeToast engaging and enjoyable. Many appreciated how it made history and science more interactive compared to reading textbooks. Some initially found it challenging but became more confident as they explored the tool. They especially liked the ability to visualize historical progressions in an easy-to-navigate format. One improvement for the next time is to provide a pre-made example timeline to help students understand expectations.
